Devorah Kalekin-Fishman

Born in the United States, Kalekin-Fishman holds a BA from City University of New York, an MA from the University of Haifa, a Doctor of Social Science from the University of Konstanz, Germany, and a Doctor of Social Science honoris causa from the University of East Finland (Joensuu). She has had extensive experience as a teacher and supervisor in primary and secondary schools in Israel. As a lecturer in the Faculty of Education, she focused on topics in the sociology of education, qualitative research methods and on the theory and practice of teaching English as a second language. Her publications include over sixty articles in refereed journals, fifteen edited and six authored books, among them: D. Kalekin-Fishman, Ideology, Policy, and Practice: Education for Immigrants and Minorities in Israel Today (Kluwer, 2003); D. Kalekin-Fishman, Practicing Social Science: Sociologists and Their Craft (Routledge, 2017); D. Kalekin-Fishman and P. Pitkanen (eds), An Emerging Institution? Multiple Citizenship in Europe (Peter Lang, 2007); G. K. Verma and D. Kalekin-Fishman (eds), Approaches to Educational and Social Inclusion: An International Perspective (Routledge, 2016). She is a proud mother of five children and a grandmother of twelve.
