Geoffrey S. Weinman

Geoffrey S. Weinman has had a long-term interest in Henry James, beginning with his introduction to James as a college first-year student reading The Turn of the Screw and continuing with his doctoral thesis, from The Johns Hopkins University, on a literary analysis of James’s major autobiographical writings (A Small Boy and Others, Notes of a Son and Brother, The Middle Years). He has also had a long-term interest in American musical theatre. This article combines both of these interests, as well as examining two television versions of one of James’s greatest achievements, The Ambassadors. For much of his career, Weinman has held major administrative positions at Fairleigh Dickinson University, including dean of the Becton College of Arts and Sciences for sixteen years and vice president of academic affairs for six years. He was the key creator of the University’s nationally acclaimed University Core programme as well as the School of Pharmacy, only the second in the state, and the School of the Arts. He has now returned to the classroom where he teaches courses in American literature, film and drama.
