Helen Jane English
Helen English is a senior lecturer in music at the University of Newcastle, Australia. She is currently a member of the Centre for 21st Century Humanities at the University of Newcastle. She is also a member of the NSW Council of Women and was Secretary of the Hunter Chapter of the Musicology Society of Australia between 2008 and 2013. Her research interests include nineteenth-century colonial music making; music outreach; community music; and music and gender. Current research projects focus on colonial blackface entertainment, settler music communities and music communities today with an activist or political facet.
