Jarek Paul Ervin

Jarek Paul Ervin’s writing explores a broad range of issues, including punk music history and analysis; philosophy of art and aesthetic theory; gender and sexuality studies; Marxism, politics and social theory; and political pedagogy. He is presently working on two books: Pull Down the Future: New York Punk in the 1970s, a study of the famed early US punk movement in its first decade, and Marxist Aesthetic Theory: An Overview, a survey of canonic as well as forgotten writers from the lengthy, contentious tradition of historical materialist aesthetics. Ervin’s shorter publications have appeared with a range of popular press and academic platforms, including Popular Music & Society, Popular Music, Jacobin, Enviro-History and The Baffler, as well as on his website, jarekpaulervin.com. At present, he teaches music history and theory courses at Temple University.
