Mark Padilla

Mark Padilla is a professor at Florida International University’s (FIU) Department of Global and Sociocultural Studies and director of the Research Center for Health and Society. He is a medical anthropologist with cross-training and experience in public health both domestically and internationally. Having received numerous grants from the National Institutes of Health to support his ethnographic research on HIV/AIDS, the opioid epidemic and disaster response in the Caribbean nations of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, as well as in the United States, his work is located at the intersection of anthropology and global public health. He has published extensively in books and scientific articles on gender, sexuality, substance use, migration, responses to disasters, institutional cultures, health policy and decolonial approaches to health.
