Naree Vachananda

Naree Vachananda is a dancer, improvisor, maker and researcher, based in the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung country (City of Yarra, Melbourne, Australia). Naree has collaborated with artists and practitioners across diverse disciplines, including fashion design, visual arts, sound design, dramaturgy, in Australia and Japan. In 2009, she began studying Noh Theatre with the late Master-actor Udaka Michishige, one of the lead actors of the Kongō School, Kyoto. Naree is currently completing her Ph.D. at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, University of Melbourne. Her research investigates the link between time and intersubjectivity in the performance of solo dance improvisation incorporating Noh’s concepts of time with phenomenology and basic principles of quantum mechanics into her improvisation practice.
