Sloan Elle Garner

Sloan Elle Garner is a dramaturg and director with experience in musical theatre, music direction, acting, lighting design, sound design and vocal and instrumental performance. Her research specialties are in survivors’ art and ethnodramaturgy, with projects ranging from Holocaust operas to pinpeat orchestras after the Khmer Rouge genocides to the terrorist bombing of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Sloan holds a diploma from Mississippi School of the Arts (theatre and music disciplines), a BA in theatre from the University of Southern Mississippi with a minor in applied music (bassoon) and an MA in theatre from Villanova University, where she garnered distinction on her thesis, ‘The art of reproducing art: Dramaturging Sunday in the Park with George’. Her undergraduate thesis is titled ‘Three forms of death in David Rabe’s The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel and Sticks and Bones’. Sloan is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in theatre and performance studies from the University of Georgia.
