Yuiko Asaba

Yuiko Asaba (BMus, MA, Ph.D. London) is lecturer (equiv. assistant professor) in music at SOAS University of London. Her research centres on Latin American popular musics and their circulations in the Asia-Pacific. Asaba’s publications include her monograph Tango in Japan: Cosmopolitanism Beyond the West (University of Hawai‘i Press, 2025) and articles in the Ethnomusicology Forum (2019), the Popular Music Studies (2020), the Cambridge Companion to Tango (2024) and the Oxford Handbook of Global Popular Music (2025). Asaba is also a tango violinist and has performed professionally as a member of tango orchestras in Argentina and Japan.
