Adina Zemanek holds a PhD degree in cultural anthropology from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, and currently works as Lecturer in Asia Pacific Studies at the University of Central Lancashire. She is also board member of the European Association of Taiwan Studies. Her previous projects investigated gender issues in PRC fashion magazines and TV series. Her current research focus has shifted towards Taiwan: the construction of national identity and grassroots nation branding through tourist souvenirs, graphic novels and picture books, as well as Taiwan-related civic activism in Europe. Her recent articles were published in Archiv Orientální, China Perspectives, positions: asia critique and Culture, Theory and Critique.
