Clare Carolin

Dr Clare Carolin is a senior lecturer in art and public engagement in the Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries at King’s College London. She is a curator and contemporary art historian with an interest in the intersection of state violence, contemporary art and visual activism. Her recent research examines this area in the context of post-Second World War British coloniality with a focus on the North of Ireland and the Falklands/Malvinas. These themes are explored in her forthcoming monograph The Deployment of Art: The Imperial War Museum’s Artistic Records Committee, 1968–1982 (Routledge, 2025). Clare was formerly co-director of the Department of Curating Contemporary Art, Royal College of Art and Hayward Gallery exhibitions curator. She has held curatorial positions at Modern Art Oxford, the South London Gallery and the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Manila.
