Hala Auji

Hala Auji is associate professor of art history at the American University of Beirut where she teaches courses on the material culture, art, architecture, and exhibition history of, and about, the Middle East and wider Islamic world. Her work focuses on notions of modernity in the eastern Mediterranean as seen in image-making, print culture, book history, and exhibition practices. She is the author of Printing Arab Modernity: Book Culture and the American Press in Nineteenth-Century Beirut (Brill, 2016) and is currently at 2021–22 EUME Fellow of the Forum Transregionale Studien (Berlin).
