Yangbin Chen

Dr Yangbin Chen is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, La Trobe University. He is the author of Muslim Uyghur Students in a Chinese Boarding School: Social Recapitalization as a Response to Ethnic Integration (Lexington Books, 2008), editor of special issue: “Policy Analysis of the Confucius Institute and Globalisation of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language” at Chinese Education & Society (2016, 49:6), and co-editor of Minority Education in China: Balancing Unity and Diversity in an Era of Critical Pluralism (Hong Kong University Press, 2014), Chinese for Advanced Learners (NewSouth Publishing, 2017). His research publications can also be seen on international journals such as The Journal of Contemporary China, Asian Studies Review etc. His research interests include ethnic and cultural studies, social and educational development in China, and Chinese teaching in a global context.  His current project is on the cultural and historical impacts of the spread of Mazu (China’s sea goddess) folk religion and culture in Asia and the Pacific Region.
