Fiona Hackney

Fiona Hackney is professor of fashion at Manchester Metropolitan University, United Kingdom. Her research focuses on sustainability in dress, slow fashion, amateur crafts and health and well-being, heritage, twentieth-century print media, community co-creation, and social design. Recent publications include ‘The power of quiet: Re-making amateur and professional textiles agencies’ (Journal of Textile Design, Research & Practice, 2016) and ‘Stitching a sensibility for sustainable clothing: Quiet activism, affect and community agency’ (Journal of Arts & Communities, 10:1, pp. 35–52, March 2020). She has led many funded projects that employ practice-based art research methods to explore the wider application and value of collaborative making.
