Mawra Tahreem

Mawra Tahreem is an interdisciplinary visual artist and researcher from Washington D.C. currently based in Providence, where she is pursuing an MFA in Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Her research-based artistic practice is informed by her own experiences as a migrant in the United States. Through her motion and visual narratives, she explores displacement, impermanence, liminality and climate change migrations. Her experimental frame-by-frame animations, installations, and drawings voice absence, time and space. Since September 2023, she has been working as a Research Assistant on the South Asia Research Project at the RISD Museum, where she analyzes, documents and catalogues South Asian textiles. Tahreem has participated in various community-engaged projects and is interested in exploring visual ethnography, reportage illustration and documentary animations.
