Savvas Patsalidis

Savvas Patsalidis is Professor of theatre history and theory in the School of English, the Hellenic Open University and the Drama Academy of the National Theatre of Northern Greece. He is the author of thirteen books on theatre/drama criticism/theory and co-editor of another thirteen. He has published numerous articles in Greece and abroad, most of them focusing on theatre theory and history, criticism, interculturalism, ancient Greek theatre, performing arts. He served as vice chair of ITI (International Theatre Institute in Athens) and as head of the committee of Athens System (the annual showcase of Greek theatre). He is on the editorial board of a number of local and international jοurnals, and since 2015 the editor-in-chief of Critical Stages (the journal of the International Association of Theatre Critics). His most recent book-length publications include Theatre and Globalization (Papazisis, Athens 2013), Theatre Interventions (University Studio Press, Thessloniki,
2013), Struggling with the Classics: About Locality and Glo-c-ality (2015) and The Geographies of Contemporary Greek Theatre: About Utopias Heterotopias and Dystopias (2016) (co-edited). His two volume study Theatre, Society, Nation (University Studio Press, 2010), was awarded first prize by the Hellenic Association of Theatre Critics for best theatre study of the year.
